Dynamics of the microbiological landscape of the oral mucosa during long-term wearing of removable plate dentures against the background of the use of collagen plates

Relevance. Long-term use of removable plate dentures can lead to oral dysbiosis and mucosal inflammation.

Aim. To evaluate the effect of the collagen plates with natural antiseptic compounds on the microbiota of the surface of removable dentures.

Materials and methods. 30 patients aged 50-75 years with gingivitis were examined. Collagen plates "Pharmadont-II" containing a mixture of four medicinal plant extracts were used for 14 days. Microbiological examination was performed before and after treatment.

Results. After treatment, microbial contamination decreased by 85% (p<0.001), and Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Candida spp. were eliminated, while normal microflora remained.

Conclusions. The collagen plates with the studied composition help correct dysbiosis and can be used to prevent inflammatory complications when using removable dentures.
